Profile City College of Kunming University of Science and technology (City College of KUST), located in Kunming of Yunnan, was established in 2010, with the official approval from the People’s Government of Yunnan Province. City College of KUST is characterized in applied undergraduate education, by drawing on KUST’s rich experience in higher education. Its academic curriculum features a coordinated development of liberal arts, economics, management and arts, with engineering in the leading position. Its rich resources include KUST’s highly experienced faculties and advanced laboratory facilities. The faculties of City College are composed of well-qualified full-time and part-time teachers, among whom are talented leading academic professionals or industry-experienced professionals. City College accepts students from all over China. At present, we are offering 39 undergraduate programs with over 8,000 students enrolled. City College aims to train well-qualified graduates with extensive theoretical knowledge and applied technologies. Therefore, the curriculum design of different programs has equally emphasized on students’ knowledge acquisition, capacity building, and quality enhancement. It aims to equip students with the awareness of professional ethics and the capacity of lifelong learning, innovation, and job-creation. The College also attaches a particular importance to aligning its programs to the changing demand of job market, working in close collaboration with various companies to provide students with opportunities for on-job training or application-oriented internship. This will enable students to adjust their studies to the needs of potential employers. Highlights Rich Academic and Internship Resources Rich resources of KUST have provided a strong support for academic and research activities in the City College. Currently KUST has 6 research centres, laboratory, training centres, or internship base accredited at the national level, and 14 laboratories and research centres accredited at provincial level. In addition to these resources, City College has also established 4 leading on-campus internship bases, which can provide a systematic platform of teaching, skill training and practice for students. Cooperation with Domestic Companies City College attaches a particular importance to aligning its teaching programs to the demands of job market, working in close collaboration with companies to co-establish specialties and provide students with opportunities for on-job training or application-oriented internships, thus allowing them to adjust their academic studies to the demands of potential employers. Linkages have been set up with over 30 leading enterprises. These linkages have enabled our student to improve their skills and social knowledge, and be prepared to compete in the job market. Students’ Achievements The College encourages students to participate in various competitions and social activities to demonstrate their competence and varied talents. A student innovation and practice centre has been established as a platform to expand and enhance their skills. Furthermore, sports and art festivals, cultural shows, and different contests are organized regularly to make students campus life colorful and exciting. To date, students from City College have earned 2,072 awards in various national academic and technological competitions, vocational skills competitions, and college student innovation and entrepreneurship competitions. This includes 720 national-level awards and 1,031 provincial-level awards. The college has particularly excelled in competitions like “China College Students ‘Internet +’ Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition”, securing 1 gold, 3 silver, and 7 bronze awards.
